Caliper |
This is a non-rotating part of the
braking system it straddles the disc and carries the brake pads. When the
brakes are applied the caliper causes the brake pads to pinch the disc .
A Caliper is also a measuring tool that can be set to measure inside or
outside dimensions of an object. |
Camshaft |
A Camshaft is a shaft with a series of cam lobes, these cam
lobes operate the valve mechanisms. The camshaft can be driven from a
chain or belt. |
Carburettor |
A device to mix air and fuel in
proportion to provide a desired output. |
Castor |
Caster is the backward or forward
tilt of the steering axis. |

Circlip |
This is a ring-shaped clip used to
prevent endwise movement. This clips fit into a grove, either on the
inside or outside of the cylindrical shaft. |
Compression |
A reduction in volume, and increase
pressure. Caused by squeezing it into a smaller space. |
Compression ratio |
This is the relationship between the
piston at top dead center and the piston bottom dead center. |
CV (Constant velocity
joint) |
A universal joint that carries drive
though an angle. |
Core plug |
A metal disc shaped device inserted into a hole in a
casting which core was removed when the casting was made. |
