Fitting a DFT carburettor to a 1400 CVH

Tools

12mm Socket
13mm Socket

Parts

1400 manifold
Depending if the carburettor is going on a Escort or a Fiesta you will need the accelerator bracket of the respective car.
Carburettor to Manifold gaskets.

To fit a DFT carburettor to a 1400 you will need to change the manifold, The reason for this is that  the 1600 manifold has larger ports. Pic 1 shows one port from each manifold. The port size for the 1400 is 31mm high and 28mm wide, the port size for the 1600 is 35mm high and 30mm wide. If you were to use the wrong manifold there would be air resistance created, causing a reduction in power.

The holes where the carburettor attaches to the manifold (Pic 2) are to small on the 1400 manifold, these will need to be machined out to 35mm Ø a good engine company should be able to this for about £20.

Test fit all the components, you might find that the accelerator assemble is not horizontal, to correct this use gaskets. (Pic 3)
